Reply with quote | #1 | I'm wondering how far people commute, and how many days a week?
My ride is about 6.5 one way. My goal is to commute atleast 3 days a week. |

Reply with quote | #2 | Hi, I ride 15 miles each way. I have to drive my car part of the way (have to go over a huge bridge on a major highway where bikes are prohibited), and then I bike in the last 15 miles. It is great. I love it. In June, there were 21 work days, I biked 11 of them - so about half. In July I am trying to do more. It is tough though because of the tight summer schedule I always seem to get. But with gas prices the way they are, that is just extra motivation.
Yesterday, I saw a guy riding his bike - so I caught up to him. It turned out he did an ironman some years ago. Now he does the smaller triathlons in the area. Ironman amazes me. It is something I can't really comprehend. |

Reply with quote | #3 | My commute is short... less than 5 miles total to and from two jobs. I do ride to the grocery, to the bike shop, to the bank and just about everywhere else, as long as I'm going alone and I don't have too large a load to carry.
I ride a 1987 model Schwinn Peloton road bike. It's a 14 speed, which makes it easy on hills.

Well with the gas prices hitting 4 bucks a gallon, I finally pulled out my old road bike. It's a 2 000 specialized allez. I bought it when I was working to get back into triathlons back in 2000, an injury put me out of commission for awhile and the bike went into storage. I just picked it up from the bike shop after taking it in for a major tune up and to replace some components. I am moving to a new home the end of this month and will start commuting to work everyday. It will be 5.7 miles each way. When I was in the navy and stationed in hawaii I commuted everyday with a ride of 6 miles each way. I'm kind of looking forward to doing it again. From now until the end of the month I will be doing practice rides to get my skills back a bit covering the same distances I will be when commuting to work. For those who are doing it now or starting out stay safe and keep your eyes open __________________ Ich Dien |

I ride a new Trek 7100 8 miles each way four days a week. I have two blinking red tail lights and a blinking white light on the front. I have two serious hills between home and work. The ride usually takes from 30 t0 35 mins. I have made the ride home in as little as 27 mins and to work in 33 mins. |

Reply with quote | #6 | My commute is roughly 16 miles round trip. I just started commuting and I am still trying to figure out the best route. What I normally drive has one major road that is under construction (part of my motivation to ride), which also tore up the bike paths. The best route I have found has bike paths that take up a total of half the ride. We need more in my area!!! Lots of traffic that goes fairly late in to the night.
I ride an '08 Diamondback Sorrento 21 speed MTB equipped with front and rear lights, and an undersaddle bag. I don't have a rack yet and as of now, my backpack does just fine (light load with just jeans and a polo shirt).
I also enjoy exploring my area for paths and trails and I have been quite surprised with what I have found. I used to be a BMXer back in my teens and it is great that ten years later, I am an enthusiast again.

My commute is 9 km, (a little over 5 miles) and is somewhat hilly. Lets just say I couldn't live without the gears. I try to ride five days a week eight months a year. Winter here can be brutal and only the toughest commuters with studded tires commute then. |
