Reply with quote | #1 | Hey,
I haven't owned a bike since I was 18. But I just bought a new Jamis Coda, 2 weeks ago for commuting (after I borrowed my hubbies bike for a few weeks). I love this bike.
So last night I was sitting on my front porch with my 5 year old. We were admiring our bikes together, and she told me that hers is named "Speed Racer." then she asked me what my bikes name is. I told her it doesnt have a name. She was completely shocked and disgusted with me .
My daughter suggested "Scout" and "Tiger" as 2 options for my bike. So this morning on the ride in, I tried them both out. No clear winner yet.
Then I started thinking: Do other people name their bikes? If so, what are they, and how do they get their names? |

Reply with quote | #2 | I don't really have a "name" for my bike but I have a Raleigh Elkhorn Mountain Bike that was my first MB I bought in 1986. I still use it today and call it my "Urban Destroyer" __________________ Dan

Reply with quote | #3 | One of my bicycles is a Dahon folding bike. I have named it my "collapsable crony". Although leery of the small (20") wheels before I acquired it, this bike has become the favorite in my stable of six bicycles ! It is a small wonder, its' manuverability in small spaces, minimal storage requirements, and the fact that it can be folded and accompany me on bus and trolley makes it the ultimate urban traveling companion. A large basket attaches to the rear rack for shopping and I just wheel it through the market as you would a shopping cart. reTIRED TOM in San Diego __________________ reTIRED TOM |

My main bike is a beautiful, yellow Bacchetta Giro 26 by the name of “Buttercupâ€. My other bike is a tall green, Raleigh Horizon by the name of “Hoserâ€. __________________ Drifty Baker

Those are great names! Where does "Hoser" come from? |

At an earlier time in my life I was influenced by some Canadians. They were always making comments such as, "You are such a hoser, eh?" One day my bike did not go the way I wanted it to and I called it a hoser. The name stuck. __________________ Drifty Baker

Reply with quote | #8 | i call my Specialized blk/red/silver mountain bike "Black Demon" for obvious reasons. My orange/yellow/white Obea road bike is "Creamsicle" not only for the color, but also for it's lightweight, smooth ride. SWEET!

Reply with quote | #9 | I'm riding a 1985 Schwinn Peloton which I bought used about 12 years ago (??). Since I have such a short commute, less than 5 miles total both ways to two jobs, I am doing some distance riding, 20-100 miles, in an attempt to encourage co-workers, friends, acquaintances and family to do likewise. If I can ride these distances, and anyone can work up to it, certainly they could ride 5 miles more or less to work or play...

Reply with quote | #10 | I kicked off commuting in 2009 today with my 30 mile round trip on "Mack" a 2008 Surley Long Haul Trucker. The name is derived from the truck line by that name which seemed appropriate for a LHT. My "good" bike, a 1997 Waterford 1250 sport touring has yet to be named. I did commute on the Waterford last year when I was getting started, and she is a sweet ride, I just felt with custom paint and all, she was a little to good for a commuter. I do think the Waterford should have a feminine name and I believe I just thought of a good possibility. Let me kick it around for a couple days or so and if it sticks, I will post with a photo. I hope to see you on the trail, Regards, Old Al. __________________ Old Al
